It's been an interesting last few days in Austin. We were hit by another polar vortex — much milder than the one in 2021, yet it still seemingly managed to shut the city down. These newsletters would usually come out on Thursdays, but as some of you know from my Instagram stories, there were blackouts throughout the city and we were without power for over 24 hours. So that obviously disrupted that schedule. But enough of the huffing and puffing …

It's my pleasure to introduce Dr. Sue Muschett! Dr. Sue is the magician behind Synergy Chiropractic in Austin, and she's been sharing her chiropractic healing powers with the world for 20 years now. Both Synergy and her beloved pup Peanut (aka the office manager) turn 15 this year. 👇🏽🐶😍

“I'm super passionate about what I do and I want patients to be just as excited about fixing their ouchies as I am, and realize that they have WAY more control over their grumpies than they think!” - Dr. Sue Muschett

Storytime on how I found Dr. Sue:

I started going to her for all my chiropractic work in April 2022 when my body was absolutely screaming at me. We'd been going through a really exciting but all-consuming rebrand at work, and because I love my job and my team, there'd been months of overworking myself with minimal self-care. I was sitting in weird positions with my very un-ergonomic setup, there was an overall lack of routine (when I'm zoned in I sometimes go-go-go on autopilot and take zero breaks, which is awful) and lack of exercise. I was stressed, overly fatigued and burned out. My body was in constant pain and there was a tingling and numbness in my left extremities.

After a "doctor" (big air quotes there because I refuse to believe someone can call themselves a healthCARE provider when they don't actually care about their patients) literally told me there was nothing I could do except get physical therapy because I treated my body so poorly (what a jerk), I ended up seeking chiropractic care. I did some scouring for the best chiropractors in Austin, and that's when I stumbled upon Dr. Sue and Synergy Chiropractic. The personality on her website really stood out. She seemed warm, approachable and fun, not to mention her profile picture was like the one above, and who can resist a “casual but cozy” (her words) smiling face with an adorable pup?! She was literally the antithesis of the doctor I'd just seen.

“Think of me as your first line of care rather than your last resort. Come see me before you choose drugs, shots, or surgery.”

The above statement is pulled from her website, and one that really struck me. I definitely made the mistake of turning to chiropractic care as a last resort when I was desperate and couldn’t get help from a traditional doctor, but I’ll never make that mistake again. While Dr. Sue treated my ails — or my “grumpies” as she calls them — her work is also preventative, and that’s the key.

Our first appointment was such a breath of fresh air and I’ve been seeing her consistently ever since. She’s welcoming, hilarious, a self-proclaimed chronic over-explainer and incredibly informative regarding chiropractic, but also a wellspring of knowledge on even the most random topics. I credit her for much of the improvement I've seen and felt in my body, in conjunction with consistent massages and a return to my regular workout routines.

I'd sent her a few introductory questions on top of the actual interview questions because my original plan was to use her answers to prompt my intro write-up of her. But her answers embody so much of her fun personality that I'd be doing y'all a disservice if I didn't share her answers in her own words. So let’s get to it!
